Hello! I hope this portfolio serves as a useful window into my journey as an educator. Here you can see examples of my work with students, ideas for future projects, and a reflection on my year as a student teacher in the High Tech High Graduate School of Education's Teaching Apprenticeship Program (TAP).

In 2017, I worked as an assistant to the special education specialist at the Charter School of San Diego (CSSD). My time with the students at CSSD opened my eyes to the glaring disparities in equity in education and played a major impact in shaping my philosophy of education around equitable access for ALL students.

As an undergraduate, I volunteered in a sixth grade classroom at the Ira Harbison School in National City where I acted as a tutor and mentor to students preparing to transition to middle school. The students at Ira Harbison inspired me to seek innovative and authentic teaching practices in order to make learning meaningful and engaging.

During that time, I also volunteered in City Heights with the Karen Organization of San Diego (KOSD). At KOSD’s community center, I participated in the after school tutoring program where I worked to support literacy for refugee students from Burma. At KOSD, I was impacted by the joyfulness of a community of people who have come through immense hardship and trauma to make a home in a new place.

In May 2019, I graduated summa cum laude from San Diego State University’s School of Education, earning a bachelor’s degree in liberal studies. That same summer, I became a member of the second cohort of students participating in TAP. In addition to being a student, I am also a mother who values the role education plays in shaping a brighter future for our children.

As the world bravely embarks on this new chapter in education due to the impact of Covid-19, I am excited to meet the challenges that lay ahead. I am committed to continuing to grow my practice and bring communities and learning together through the use of new technologies.
